Plant Studies 13 - Thistle

Cirsium arvense L. - Field thistle
(Cirsium from the Greek word kirsos, meaning 'swollen vein', arvense meaning 'in the fields' + Linneus)
Other names; - Åkertistel - Creeping thistle - Бодяк полевой - 丝路蓟

Hated by farmers, but loved by the insects! (one of the largest nectar producers).
Thistles have a very large root system, with roots reaching up to 3 meters deep.
These roots give rise to new shoots, and each plant can produce up to 1500 seeds,
making it very difficult to get rid of.
The flowering-period is in July-August (Scandinavia).
The plant is also edible and resembles asparagus they say..
