A rather boring insect due to its commonness, (especially when you later read about bugs who can shoot boiling liquids, or those carrying trophys of dead ants on their back!).
I have never reflected over its name before, but it is apparently associated with Virgin Mary (Our Lady).
Norwegian "marihøne" = "Mary hen".
Swedish "nyckelpiga" = "key maid".
In folklore it was believed that a ladybird carried the keys to heaven...
